Survey Shows Employees Prefer Online, Self-Service Benefits Enrollment
Benelogic Poll, Powered by Inquisite Survey Technology, Says Workers Find Online Method More Efficient, User-Friendly
AUSTIN, TEXAS - August 18, 2003 - Workers are warming to self-service benefits enrollment, thanks to its flexibility, ease of use and security, according to survey results released today by Benelogic, a provider of online employee benefits administration solutions. Benelogic surveys are powered by the robust technology of Inquisite, a premier provider of web survey solutions.
Results from the survey of some 4,100 employees at 10 Benelogic customer organizations over the past eight months show that workers are responding favorably to online benefits administration initiatives because they can select the benefits they want with ease, privacy and security from any location with a connected personal computer. Benelogic is the largest online benefits administration firm in the mid-Atlantic region, serving employees in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Canada.
The survey's findings show that:
- 55 percent of respondents completed the enrollment process online for the first time in 2003.
- 54 percent of employees completed the enrollment process via non-corporate Internet connections.
- 35 percent said they found the online method to be less confusing and time-consuming than using interactive voice recognition systems.
- 87 percent said the Benelogic system is better than their prior method of enrollment.
Benelogic is using feedback from the survey to learn how employees perceive the online enrollment process and to fine-tune the system for each customer organization. "Our users' computer skills vary to a wide degree, ranging from those who don't really understand how hyperlinks work to those who are quite computer proficient," said Christine Miki, the company's vice president of client integration. "If users indicate that they're confused about a particular benefit, we work with the employer to improve the communication and supporting online documentation relating to that benefit. Inquisite surveys allow the process to be far more responsive to employee needs -- an approach that's nearly impossible in the paper-based world.
The web is becoming the dominant means of delivering human resources services to employees, according to a recent report issued by Towers Perrin, one of the world's largest management and human resource consulting firms. Web-based self-service programs offer enterprises opportunities for significant savings in administration and related costs, and corresponding improvements in efficiency and effectiveness, the report said.
Today's technology also permits increased personalization and customization of information for different employee groups, said Sam Goodner, Inquisite's chief executive officer. "Employees benefit because they have a better understanding of the value of their unique set of company-provided programs and can take more responsibility for decision-making."
