Survey System 9: Turning Insight Into Action

Getting the Right Information to the Right People at the Right Time

Inquisite Survey System 9 is scheduled for release in mid-August and is designed to give you greater control over creating and generating reports with a new, interactive analytics engine and user interface. Earlier this month a customer panel previewed the new features and identified what they found to be most valuable: grouping and subtotaling answer choices, summarizing table questions on a single page, and filtering respondents simply with a click of the mouse.

The Analytics Engine in Survey System 9 helps you visualize your data, giving you the ability to group and customize charts and tables to fit your needs.

Previewer Kristin Thomsen of the United Way of America said, "Version 9 is a wonderful enhancement to the reporting features while still maintaining the existing capabilities of the current version that I've come to know well. The new reports show multiple ways of presenting the data which is very valuable and eliminates the need to create a separate presentation."

The reporting enhancements in Survey System 9 should save time and effort for Survey Administrators. With the ability to more effectively customize reports for end users of the data, Administrators can more quickly deliver the right information to the right people at the right time. Administrators can combine report filtering with the power to create customized views for Survey Analyst users to deliver immediate analyzable results to data consumers at all levels of the organization. According to Product Manager Paul Saletan, "Survey System 9 delivers a faster time to information for those who need to act on data collected. Version 9 features, in combination with Analyst access, enable greater sharing of information across the enterprise."

The new Analytics Engine and Reports Builder enable users to illustrate data as metrics without having to be statisticians. The Analytics Engine reduces the need to export data to Excel or other programs for customization, provides greater flexibility to change the look and feel of reports, and eliminates the need to run multiple reports.

Survey System 9 makes it possible to get the right information to the right people at the right time through:

  • Ability to present data in role-based, custom views, enabling faster time to interpretation and action for decision-makers
  • Best of both quantitative and qualitative data, with automatic tabulation of both pre-coded and uncategorized responses, plus scoring and aggregate numeric statistics
  • Customizable charting by question that distills lengthy tables into concise visual summaries
  • Interactive segmentation with flexible answer grouping ("roll up") in frequency and multi-banner cross-tabulations
  • Ability to manipulate and filter data rapidly through mouse-driven drill-down and drag and drop, for faster delivery and interpretation

This latest release of the Survey System illustrates Inquisite's commitment to continuous product improvement and innovation while keeping the product simple, powerful, and flexible.

Survey System 9 Reporting Features

  • Interactive Reports. Inquisite 9.0 features a new "analytics"-style reporting for creating customized frequency and cross-tab reports. As you change options, the report is updated on-screen. You can jump to any question quickly. This interactivity allows you to explore and perfect the look of the report before printing or saving it.
  • Comprehensive Reports. Reports now include all questions by default. You no longer have to run different reports for different types of questions. You control which questions to include. Just select them from an outline view of your questionnaire.
  • Adaptive Reports. Inquisite selects the presentation format appropriate to each one. Aggregate statistics (mean, median, etc.) are displayed for all numeric questions or scales that have scores assigned to answers. Text responses are automatically tabulated -- the categories are dynamically created at the time that the report is generated.
  • Enhanced Visual Reporting. Charts now available to illustrate the results. Individual questions display graphs side by side with tables. Each graph can be customized or applied to the entire survey.
  • Cross-tabulation Reporting. Reports transform from top-line to cross-tab views. Cross-tabs now permit multiple questions in the banner, answer grouping, and long scales.
  • Enhanced Results Segmentation. Reports allow fast filtering and "drill-down" capability to segment your results. By clicking on a statistic or heading, the report is instantly filtered by the subgroup represented by that answer choice.
  • Roll-Up Reports. Reports roll-up scales to create summaries and subtotals. Answers can be arbitrarily grouped to combine two or more answer categories into one or provide top and bottom boxes. For example, a 5-point agreement scale (Strong Agree to Strong Disagree) can be reduced to 2 in the report (Agreement, Disagreement). Responses like Not Applicable or No Opinion can be removed from view or tabulation.
  • Improved Reports on Table Questions. All items and scales are summarized as a single results grid.
